Indian Waters offers three day trips and three overnight trips of varying lengths and prices. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are strongly recommended, especially on weekends and holidays. Large groups of 6 or more canoes typically plan their trips at least a month ahead of time. Trip prices listed below include boat rental, paddles, lifejackets, tax and transportation to and from the start and end points. Groups of six or more canoes on a weekday get a 10 percent discount. Tax-exempt groups should take 6 percent off the listed price.

Most trips are self-guided, but the livery’s staff is happy to help you plan your route ahead of time. You can also purchase a copy of the Allegheny River Paddling Guide, a water resistant river map book that uses text, photos and illustrations to explain the many sites paddlers come across on the first 45 miles of the Allegheny.

Trip 1: Indian Waters - Tidioute

5.5 miles. Takes 1.5 to 2 hours, longer if you like. $30 per canoe or double kayak; $25 per single kayak; $15 if you bring your own boat.

Enjoy a relaxing float to Tidioute, pop. 800. This is our shortest trip and probably our most popular among people with young children. It starts at our livery and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. There are plenty of islands to stop and explore along the way, including the 62-acre Courson Island, one of seven federally-protected Wilderness Islands along the Allegheny. The trip ends at the George Jones Memorial Park in Tidioute. Amenities include picnic tables, trashcans, outhouses, a playground and basketball court. Restaurants and stores are within walking distance of the park.

Trip 2: Buckaloons - Indian Waters

10 miles. Takes 3.5 to 4 hours. $35 per canoe or double kayak; $30 per single kayak; $15 if you bring your own boat.

This is our most popular trip. It starts upriver at Buckaloons campground, inside the Allegheny National Forest. Within 20 minutes paddlers pass Crulls Island – the first and largest of the seven Wilderness Islands. At 96 acres, Crulls is a great place to view wildlife or explore local plants and trees. And because your trip ends back at the livery, you’re in no rush to meet our drivers for a pickup. Most paddlers complete the trip in 3.5 to 4 hours.

Trip 3: Betts Park - Indian Waters

15 miles. Most groups complete the journey is 5 to 6 hours. Two canoe minimum. $40 per canoe or double kayak; $35 per single kayak; $20 if you bring your own boat.

For those looking to float the entire day, this is your trip. We drop you off 15 miles up river and you paddle back to your vehicle at our livery. This trip starts at Clifford R. Betts Memorial Park, which boasts a pavilion, playgrounds, gardens, toilets, basketball and tennis courts, baseball fields and many tree species. From Betts park, paddlers travel through Starbrick, a beautiful and quiet part of the river where Great Blue Heron are often spotted, and then past Buckaloons campground and toward the Wilderness Islands.

Trip 4: Betts Park - Indian Waters

15 miles. Two-day (one night) trip, $55.00 per canoe. Three-day (two-night) trip, $75.00 per canoe.

The same as Trip 3, except that you don't paddle all 15 miles in one day. Most paddlers are on the water for 2 to 3 hours the first day, and then set up camp at Buckaloons campground or pitch a tent on Crulls Island, one of the seven federally protected Wilderness Islands. The following day, they paddle another 2 to 3 hours back to their vehicle at our livery. Covers a beautiful, scenic part of the river.

Trip 5: Kinzua Dam - Indian Waters

26 miles. Two-day (one night) trip, $75.00 per canoe*. Three-day (two night) trip, $90.00 per canoe*. Two canoe minimum.

This is our most popular overnight trip. It gives you the best of both worlds: it winds past scenic, remote areas and also takes you through historic downtown Warren - a great place to explore, grab lunch or just admire as you float by. The starting point for this trip is 26 miles upriver, at Kinzua Dam - a wonder itself. The trip can be done in two or three days, depending on how far you want to paddle each day.

Trip 6: Kinzua Dam - Tionesta

45 miles.Three-day (two night) trip, $100.00 per canoe. Four-day (three night) trip, $115.00 per canoe. Three canoe minimum.

This journey takes you 45 miles, from Kinzua Dam to Tionesta. Paddlers will pass through historic downtown Warren, encounter all seven of the federally protected Wilderness Islands and large swaths of the Allegheny National Forest and float past the town of Tidioute, pop. 800. The trip ends at Tionesta, where visitors will find a 75-foot tall lighthouse not far from the boat launch. Trip 7: Kinzua Dam - Emlenton

107 miles. Eight-day (seven night) trip, $300.00 per canoe*. Three canoe minimum.

Our longest overnight trip, this journey takes you 107 miles, from Kinzua Dam to Emlenton. Paddlers will pass through Warren, Tidioute, Tionesta, Oil City, and Franklin, ending in Emlenton on day eight. Logistics and trip planning assistance is available. Contact us for more information.
